Cycling Accidents
Vulnerable Cyclists
Cycling is fun, but it can also be a slightly dangerous occupation, what with car drivers determined to make their presence felt and the state of many roads in disrepair.
But, making a claim for a cycling accident is not straightforward. If a car is involved, then at least you have another party which can bear witness. If you hit a pothole and end up sprawled over the road, then it will be harder to prove what has happened and the effects. Talk to us and we can help you through it.

Potholes
If you have the misfortune to hit a pothole, there are a number of things you can do to help your claim. These include:
- if you can, take a photograph of the pothole, as this helps greatly when it comes to making a claim;
- make sure you make a note of the exact location of the pothole;
- make a detailed note of the damage caused to your bike;
- see a doctor as soon as possible, if you have sustained physical injuries;
- if there are any witnesses, take down their details.
Cycle Accidents Involving Other Vehicles
Cyclists don’t do well against other vehicles, but they are not third class citizens and enjoy the same protection as car, van and lorry drivers. So, you should consider the accident as you would if you were a car driver. This includes:
- reporting it to the police;
- noting the events of the accident and taking photographic evidence, or drawing a diagram;
- getting the driver’s details, which means their name, address, vehicle registration details, and, if possible, their insurance details;
- trying to get the details, name and address, of any witnesses;
- keeping clothing that might be ripped, or the parts of the bike that were damaged;
- maintaining a record of any costs associated with the accident.
