Back Injury

A back injury is literally a pain in the neck for thousands of people in the U.K.

Back pain, especially in the lower back, effects most people in the U.K. and the causes are varied, but a back injury is the most common culprit. But if you feel that it has been caused at work, or through someone’s negligence, then maybe there is case for a claim.

Most people view a back injury as a fact of life, but you should not suffer, as such injuries can not only effect your life in financial terms, but also in your enjoyment of life.

Pain from a back injury is usually gone by six weeks and is known by the medical profession as acute at this stage. If it lasts for over three months it is known as chronic and attention is highly recommended.

Most back injury accidents occur at work and usually involve poor lifting techniques. It is up to the employer to firstly assess the risks involved in performing a particular task and whether a particular part of the process at their premises puts their employees at risk.

If they fail to do this, or ask an employee to perform an unsafe task, then it needs investigating. Even being asked to lift boxes of paper to load into a photo-copier might be judged in hindsight as unwise.

It’s advisable that people do not underestimate the seriousness of a back injury and professional help should be sought.
